ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State volleyball program was a recipient of the 2018-2019 Team Academic Award which was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). 

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The volleyball team featured 13 athletes with at least a 3.3 GPA, while eight recorded a 3.5 GPA or higher. 

Grand Valley State will return eight letter-winners from the 2018 season including sophomore Ali Thompson, who was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. 

The 2019 campaign will begin Friday, September 6 when the Lakers travel to Pembroke, North Carolina to compete in the UNC Pembroke Invitational.
