Lakers Split GLIAC DH With Northwood

Lakers win game 1 4-2, drop 4-0 decision in game 2

Grand Valley State split a GLIAC doubleheader Saturday at home versus Northwood, winning game one 4-2, but dropping a 4-0 decision in game two. GVSU will conclude the 2019 season on Sunday (May 5) versus Northwood beginning at 12 noon. Seven seniors will be honored prior to game. 

Game 1
Grand Valley State tallied all the scoring they would need, four runs, in the bottom of the fourth. 1B Nathan Bonter opened the inning with a single and 2B Anthony Cocco delivered a 1-out double to right center that plated Bonter. LF Connor Grice was hit by a pitch and C Ryan Lorber walked to load the bases. Cocco scored on a wild pitch and 3B Christian Faust delivered a 2-out, 2 RBI single that uppped the Laker lead to 4-0. Northwood scored two runs in the top of the fifth, but Brendan Nearing picked up his third save of the year with a hitless seventh. Freshman Rylan Peets picked up the win, yielding four hits and two runs with four strikeouts. Keaghan Sutliff tossed 1.2 innings of hitless relieve prior to Nearing's hitless seventh. 

Laudont, Bonter, Cocco, Faust and Ellens each collected a hit for GVSU. Cocco and Faust each drove in a run. 

Game 2
Laudont, SS Parker Murdie and Ellens were the only hits off a Northwood starter that tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout. Junior Cade Cintorino was tagged with the loss, yielding three runs, two of which were earned, on nine hits. Sam Leck went gave up one run on three hits in the final 2.1 innings.
