ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State baseball team was swept in a doubleheader against the Davenport Panthers Saturday (April 6) afternoon at the GVSU Baseball Field. The Panthers won game one, 9-2, before a 8-0 win in the nightcap. The Lakers have now dropped the first three of the four-game set.
The Panthers used a pair of home runs to score seven runs across the first three innings of game one. The Lakers would finally find the hit column in the fifth inning and score their two runs in the frame on the power of a
Nathan Bonter RBI single and
Connor Grice RBI groundout. The Panthers would answer with two more runs the next inning to round out the scoring.
A two-run fourth inning was all the offense Davenport would need in game two.
Rylan Peets allowed three earned runs in 6.1 innings on the hill but suffered the loss (2-3). Davenport rallied for six runs in the seventh, capped by a grand slam, to provide all the insurance they would need.
The Lakers wrap up their four-game set with the Panthers Sunday (April 7) with a nine-inning game set to begin at 12:00 PM. GVSULakers.com will provide links to live stats and video while @GVSUBaseball provides live updates on Twitter.
