ALLENDALE, Mich. –
Kelley Fitzgerald set the all-time, single-season assist record in Grand Valley State history as the No. 22 Lakers topped the Davenport Panthers, 18-4, Wednesday (April 24) night at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. The win was the sixth straight for the Lakers, who improve to 12-3 on the season and 9-1 in GLIAC play.
Megan Yoshida led the GVSU attack with four goals while
Abbi O'Neal scored three times and dished four assists.
Sophie Conroy and
Skylar Simmers each contributed two goals and a pair of assists.
Payton Neil stopped eight of her 12 shots faced for the game and Maddi Barnes stopped both Panther attempts after she took over in the cage.
After Davenport struck for an early goal, the Lakers responded with four straight.
Olivia Esposito scored the equalizer before an unassisted Conroy goal just two minutes later put the Lakers up for good. GVSU would take an 11-3 lead into half and out-score the Panthers, 7-1, in the second period. Late in the half, Fitzgerald found
Ashley Albright for a one-timer that clinched the new Laker record.
The Lakers wrap up the regular season Friday (April 26) when they host Concordia-St. Paul for senior day at 7:00 PM. GVSULakers.com will have links to live stats and video while @GVSUWLAX provides Twitter updates throughout the match.
