No. 23 Lakers beat Lewis, 22-1, Thursday night

GVSU earns fifth straight win with two to go in regular season

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 23 Grand Valley State Lakers rattled off 22 unanswered goals for a 22-1 win over the Lewis Flyers Thursday (April 18) night at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. The Lakers improve to 11-3 on the year and 8-1 in GLIAC play after their fifth straight win.

Carly Shisler once again paced the Laker attack with six goals on the evening while Abbi O'Neal contributed four and Sarah Stagaard three. Maggie Hammer, Sophie Conroy and Skylar Simmers all scored a pair as well while a trio more contributed one goal each. Kelley Fitzgerald notched two assists on the day, tying the all-time single-season assist record in GVSU history with 43 on the year.

After Lews scored the opening goal a minute into the match, Abbi O'Neal responded with a quick answer to tie it up after she scooped up a ground ball in the midfield and darted past the defense for an open look. Shisler would score just :30 later and the Lakers would never look back. GVSU scored with under five seconds left in the opening period to take an 11-1 lead into half. That running clock would never stop as the Lakers outscored Lewis 11-0 in the second period.

The Lakers have two games remaining in the regular season and wrap up the campaign with two home matches next week beginning Wednesday (April 24) when they host the Davenport Panthers at 7:00 PM.
