Grand Valley Staste dropped a 5-3 decision to Walsh Thursday (March 7) afternoon at the Russ Matt Invitational in Kissimmee, Florida. The Lakers will play Sioux Falls (S.D.) in a doubleheader Friday (March 7) beginning at 1 p.m.

The Lakers pushed two unearned runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth on two hits and a Walsh error. SS
Parker Murdie singled , followed by a
Chase Carpenter single and a Walsh throwing error that allowed Murdie to score and Carpenter to advance to second. Carpenter advanced to third on a groundout by RF
Jacob Gleason and scored on a sac fly from DH
Joe Laudont.  GVSU added a run in the bottom of the eighth on three hits. Gleason tripled to left with one out and scored on a Laudont single to left. Walsh scored five runs on four hits, three of which were extra-base hits, in the top of the ninth. The Cavaliers had managed just three hits through the first eight innings of action.

Anthony Cocco was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Starter
Luke Hargis yielded  two hits with two strikeouts in five innigns of work.
Brett Nearing pitched a hitless sixth, followed by two scoreless innings of work, including three strikeouts, by his brother
Brendan Nearing.
Christian Sidoti was tagged with the loss for the Lakers.Â
