Grand Valley State dropped a 5-2 decision to Minnesota Crookston Tuesday afternoon in Kissimmee, Fla. at the Russ Matt Invitational. The Lakers (4-5) will face former GLIAC foe Walsh Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Minnesota Crookston pushed four runs across in the bottom of the first on three hits, with the big blow coming in the form of a 3-run homerun. The Eagles added an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth. Grand Valley State, which outhit UMC 7-6, loaded the bases in the top of the fourth on three consecutive singles by
Joe Laudont,
Nathan Bonter and
Ryan Blake-Jones, followed by sac flies from
Zach Berry and
Anthony Cocco.
Alex Licata took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in five innings of work with six strikeouts.
Sam Leck allowed two hits and struck out three in two innings, while
Nick Shaw allowed an unearned run with two K's in one inning. Laudont and Bonter each had two hits for the Lakers.
