No. 21 GVSU runs away from Maryville, 20-1, Sunday

Ten different Lakers score in convincing victory

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 21 Grand Valley State Lakers never trailed in a wire-to-wire, 20-1, win over the Maryville Saints Sunday (March 31) afternoon at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium. Ten different Lakers scored on the day to help GVSU improve to 8-3 on the year and 5-1 in GLIAC play.

Kelley Fitzgerald led the Laker attack with four goals and four assists, giving her 12 dimes for the weekend. Carly Shisler contributed a hat-trick and controlled nine draws while Ashley Albright scored a pair of goals to go along with two assists. The Lakers out-shot Maryville 32-2 on the day and held the Saints to just three successful clears on 20 attempts and won the draw control battle, 19-4.

Megan Yoshida scored 45 seconds into the match for what would prove to be the game-winner. Shisler and Fitzgerald would follow up quickly and the Lakers opened a 3-0 lead under four minutes into the action. Shisler would score with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half to trigger a running clock for the rest of the day. The second half saw freshman Lauren Iott recorded her first multi-goal game of her career and classmate Caitlin Burnett score for the first time as a Laker.

The Lakers play their final road game of the season this Saturday (April 6) when they face cross-town foe Davenport at 1:00 PM. GVSULakers.com will provide links to live stats and video while @GVSUWLAX provides live Twitter updates throughout the match.
