MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 20 Grand Valley State Lakers saw five different players record hat-tricks en route to a 21-8 win over the Northern Michigan Wildcats Sunday (March 17) to begin GLIAC play with a 2-0 weekend. The Lakers are now 5-2 overall.
Sophie Conroy led the offensive attack with five goals, a new career-high for the sophomore.
Olivia Esposito,
Abbi O'Neal,
Skylar Simmers and
Sarah Stagaard all scored three goals while
Carly Shisler scored twice and dished three assists and
Kelley Fitzgerald recorded four assists.
Northern Michigan scored right off the opening draw control to take a brief lead, but the Lakers would answer with three straight goals. Shisler tied the match two minutes in before Esposito gave the Lakers lead just a few moments later, which GVSU would never relinquish. The Lakers would carry a 15-6 lead into halftime and continue to run away with the win in the second half.
GVSU continues GLIAC road action next weekend as they head to lacrosse newcomer Ashland for the first time in program history Friday before a showdown with the preseason conference favorite Indianapolis on Sunday.
