No. 20 GVSU opens GLIAC play with 17-4 win

Lakers down Concordia-St. Paul Friday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 20 Grand Valley State Lakers started fast and never relented in a wire-to-wire 17-4 win over the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears in the opener of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. The Lakers are now 4-2 on the year and 1-0 in the conference while CSP drops to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.
 
Nine different Lakers would score in the match, led by Abbi O'Neal's four tallies. Carly Shisler added three and Maggie Hammer, Lauren Iott and Skylar Simmers all scored twice. Kelley Fitzgerald recorded five assists and Shisler controlled seven draws.
 
It was a flurry of goals for the Lakers to set the tone early. O'Neal had a hat-trick within the first five minutes while Olivia Esposito and Shisler would also strike in that time to make it 5-0 Lakers right out of the gate. The Lakers would score the first eight goals of the day and take a 10-3 lead into the half.
