Grand Valley State women's basketball standout
Cassidy Boensch has been named a Google Cloud First Team All-American, per a release from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday afternoon (March 12). This is the first Academic All-American honor for the Au Gres, Mich. native.
Recently named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year, the junior center is averaging a double double with 20.0 points and 11.9 rebounds in her 30.6 minutes per game to lead the Lakers to their fourth straight NCAA Division II Midwest Region Tournament appearance and their first GLIAC Regular Season Title since 2005-06 after finishing 27-3 overall and 19-1 in conference action. She's also set a new program single season record for blocks with 94 rejections this season to go along with 51 assists and 28 steals.
This season, she's been named the GLIAC Player of the Week three separate times and was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Player of the Week after averaging 26.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 5.5 blocks per game in wins over Wayne State and then No. 3-nationally ranked Ashland.
In the classroom, she's carrying a 3.93 Grade Point Average (GPA) with a double major in Biochemistry and Pre-Med while minoring in Human Rights. She's also a soon-to-be two-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honoree (3.5+ GPA) after earning the honor in her first eligible year a season ago.
