ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State Lakers fell, 70-67, to the No. 11 Davenport Panthers Thursday night in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular season finale. The Lakers enter the GLIAC Tournament at 16-12 overall and 10-10 in GLIAC play and will be the seven-seed in the GLIAC Tournament, traveling to Ashland, Ohio to face the Eagles on Tuesday (March 5) in the quarterfinals.
Three Lakers scored in double figures, led by
Jeremiah Ferguson's 20 points, which matched his season high.
Shaquan McArthur set a new personal best in scoring with 18 points. The Lakers shot .593 (16-27) in the first half but just .387 (12-31) in the second half.
The first half saw back-and-forth action where neither team took a lead bigger than six points. The Lakers held Davenport off the scoreboard for the final 2:30 of the first half and used a 5-0 run to take a 36-33 lead into halftime.
The second half was the same story in a very different cover, with each team using runs of 14-0 and 12-0, respectively through the half to wind up back within three of each other. After a flurry of lead changes, the Lakers wound up down three with 12 seconds left with the ball. After the full-court inbound the Lakers got an off-balance shot away from beyond the arc, but it was off the mark.
