#3 Lakers improve to 9-0; Defeat Davenport 82-53 on Saturday afternoon

Boensch records fourth straight double-double

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The #3 ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team earned an 82-53 victory over Davenport in GLIAC action on Saturday afternoon inside the DU Student Center on the campus of Davenport University. The Lakers improve to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while Davenport drops to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.
 
Senior center Cassidy Boensch led the way for the Lakers with 18 points and 13 rebounds, her fourth consecutive game with a double-double. Maddie Dailey was the only other Laker in double-figures as she scored 15 points (6-9 FG), while Victoria Hedemark recorded eight points, four steals, and three assists.
 
The Lakers came out sluggish in quarter one, shooting just 5-16 from the field, and Davenport took advantage early. The Panthers led 13-9 with 1:24 left in the quarter, but GVSU scored the final four points of the frame to tie the game at 13-13 heading into the second quarter.
 
After the two teams traded baskets to begin the second quarter, the Lakers went on a 9-0 run to take a 28-19 lead with 5:32 remaining in the half. GVSU would increase their lead to 41-25 by the halftime break.
 
The third quarter put the game out of reach as GVSU outscored Davenport 28-9 including a 12-0 scoring run to begin the second half. The Lakers would grow their lead to a game-high 36 points at 72-36 with 8:16 left in the fourth quarter.
 
The Lakers will travel to Florida on Tuesday for two games beginning on Friday, Dec. 20 as they take on Ave Maria (NAIA) at the Daytona Beach Shootout.
