ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State volleyball team dropped a three-set match against Wisconsin-Parkside by scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-21 on Friday in a GLIAC match at the GVSU Fieldhouse. The loss ends a four-match win streak for the Lakers and they drop to 12-12 overall and 7-6 in GLIAC play.
Parkside held the advantage in most statistical categories including; kills (38-31), attack percentage (.183-.032), assists (37-31), and digs (66-57), while the Lakers totaled five services aces compared to the Rangers four.
Individually, sophomore
Ali Thompson had a team-high 14 kills and added 10 digs, while Emma clines chipped in with nine kills. Freshman setter
Rachel Jacquay totaled 25 assists and senior
Kendall Yerkes led the team in digs with 19.
The Lakers trailed early as Parkside jumped out to a 12-5 lead that would grow to a 21-12 lead. GVSU would trim the deficit to 22-16 but a 3-0 run by the Rangers ended the set at 25-16.
The two teams went back and forth in set two with each team holding multiple leads of two or more points. After a Parkside run gave them a 18-15 lead, GVSU would answer with a 4-0 run to take a 19-18 lead. The Lakers would grow that lead to 22-20, however the Rangers went on a 4-0 run of their own to take a 24-22 lead. Parkside would win the set on a Laker service error.
GVSU led 6-1 at the beginning of set three but Parkside scored 10 of 11 points in the middle of the set and led 16-11. The Lakers would trim that deficit to two points but could not get any closer and dropped the final set 25-21.
The Lakers will take on Purdue Northwest tomorrow at 4:00 PM for Senior Day.
