The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated Davenport, 7-0, on Sunday (Oct. 6) at home. The Lakers improve to a 5-0 record after posting two shutout wins and sweeping this weekend's matches against Purdue Northwest (Oct. 5) and Davenport.
GVSU posted wins in each match of singles competition for the second time this season.
Vera Griva (6-2, 6-0) and
Taylor Barrett (6-0, 6-0) shut down their opponents from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
Liv Hanover (6-0, 6-1) and
Agata Szewczuk (6-0, 6-0) rounded out the Laker singles action as the No. 3 and No. 4 competitors.
Marija Leko and
Marily Canellopoulos won by default in singles match play.
Griva and Canellopoulos took the court in No. 1 doubles play and defeated the Panthers, 6-4. The Lakers added a dominant win from Barret and Leko (6-1) in the No. 2 doubles spot, while Szewczuk and Hanover won by default to conclude the match.
The Lakers will host Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State next weekend (Oct 12-13) at 10 a.m. for their final home matches of the 2019 season.
