GVSU concludes regular season with weekend road trip

Lakers take on Wayne State on Saturday, Ashland on Sunday

The Grand Valley State women's tennis team competes in their final two matches of the regular season as they travel to Wayne State on Saturday (Oct. 19) at 11 a.m. and Ashland on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 1 p.m.  The Lakers boast an undefeated record of seven wins and no losses. 
 
Saturday's matchup against Wayne State features the only two unbeaten teams in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with seven wins each.  The Ashland Eagles post a 3-4 GLIAC record heading into Sunday's match. 
 
The GLIAC Player of the Week, Vera Griva, leads the Lakers with nine wins and two losses from the No. 1 singles spot.  GVSU compiled a 40-17 overall singles record. 
 
In doubles play, the Lakers hold a total record of 23 wins and seven losses with the sophomore duo of Marily Canellopoulos and Griva leading the team with an 8-2 record. 
 
GVSU has shut out three of their seven opponents this season, including Purdue Northwest, Davenport and Lake Superior State. 
 
The Lakers' fall season wraps up at the GLIAC championships which take place on Friday, Oct. 25 through Sunday, Oct. 27 in Midland, Mich.
