GVSU blanks Lake Superior State, 7-0

Lakers record their seventh win of the season

The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated Lake Superior State, 7-0, on Sunday (Oct. 13) for their final home match of the season.  The Lakers improve to an undefeated record of seven wins and no losses in regular season play.
 
GVSU shut out the Lake Superior State Lakers form singles action for their third shutout of the season.  Sophomore Vera Griva once again led the Lakers from the No. 1 singles spot with a win over her opponent, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.  Taylor Barrett (6-0, 13-11), Marija Leko (6-4, 6-1) and Marily Canellopoulos (6-3, 6-0) took down their opponents from singles spots two through four, respectively. 
 
Liv Hanover (6-0, 6-1) and Agata Szewczuk (default) recorded wins in No. 5 and No. 6 singles action.  Following Sunday's match, the Lakers own an overall singles record of 40-17.
 
In doubles action, Canellopoulos and Griva (6-3)  and Leko and Barrett (6-3) teamed up for wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.  Hanover and Szewczuk won by default in No. 3 doubles to round out the Laker scoring. 
 
The Lakers travel to Wayne State (Oct. 19) and Ashland (Oct. 20) next weekend for their final regular season matches.  The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championships will be held on Oct. 25-27 in Midland, Mich.
