The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated the Michigan Tech Huskies, 4-3, on Saturday (Oct. 12) for their sixth win of the season. The Lakers retain an undefeated record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and regular season play.
Singles action opened with a win from
Vera Griva (6-2, 7-5) in the No. 1 spot.
Taylor Barrett (7-6, 6-3) recorded a win from the No. 2 spot while
Marily Canellopoulos (6-4, 6-2) also defeated her opponent in No. 4 singles play.
Marija Leko (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) was defeated in No. 3 singles action, as was
Liv Hanover (5-7, 7-5, 10-7) and
Agata Szewczuk (6-2, 6-0) from the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, respectively.
The Lakers swept the Huskies in doubles play to give GVSU an overall doubles record of 20 wins and seven losses. Canellopoulos and Griva teamed up for a 7-5 win over Michigan Tech from the No. 1 doubles spot. In No. 2 doubles action, Barrett and Leko defeated their opponents, 6-4, followed by a win from Szewczuk and Hanover (6-1) from the No. 3 doubles spot.
The Lakers host their final home match of the season on Sunday (Oct. 13) against Lake Superior State.
