The Series
GVSU leads the all-time series with Northwood by a 28-8-1 margin. The Lakers have not played at Northwood since 2013, a 23-17 GVSU win.  The Lakers have won nine consecutive games in the series and 22-of-the-last-25. Northwood's last  win came in 2004 (35-14) in Allendale.

• Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 395-142-3 (.733) in 48 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 287-72-3 mark (.796).

• GVSU has won four NCAA Division II Football National Championships, made 19 playoff appearances, won 17 league titles, captured nine NCAA regional titles, made nine trips to the NCAA DII semifinals and six to the NCAA DII title game.

• Grand Valley State is the only GLIAC team to win at least 12 games three times since 2013 and make two NCAA DII Playoff semifinal appearances.

• GVSU head football coach Matt Mitchell is second in all-time wins at GVSU with 81. Current Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly is first with 118 career wins.

• Grand Valley State has started the season 4-0 for the 13th time in the last 18 years.

• GVSU is playing on the road for the third time in the last four weeks. However, this will be a short trip. On the heels of a road game in Cleveland, Mississippi (1,464 miles round trip) to take on Delta State, the Lakers stayed on the road for a trip to Marquette, Michigan (828 miles round trip) to take on Northern Michigan. The Lakers traveled 2,392 miles between the back-to-back road games.

• After leading the nation in pass defense in 2017 (127.5 yards per game), the Lakers rank 9th this season in passing yards allowed (134.0) and 19th in pass efficiency defense (95.21).

• The GVSU pass defense has allowed just seven TD passes in its last 16 games, three of which came last week vs. Michigan Tech.

• The Lakers rank 13th nationally in scoring defense (12.8 ppg) and 17th in total defense, yielding 256.3 ypg.

• Grand Valley State ranks 13th nationally in team tackles for loss per game (9.5 pg)...The Lakers have 38.0 tackles for loss (-137) in four games.

• The Laker offense has recorded 39 first downs rushing and 45 first downs passing.

• GVSU ran 70 offensive plays vs. Indianapolis compared to the Greyhounds' 50 plays, however, that changed in game two when Delta State ran 86 plays to the Lakers' 69.  Game three was GV 73, NMU 52 and game four was GV 73, MT 60.

• Time of possession has never been a key stat for the Laker offense, however, GVSU does have a decided advantage this season 32:59 - 27:01.

• Grand Valley State senior quarterback Bart Williams was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week following his performance vs. Michigan Tech. Williams completed 23-of-37 passes for 382 yards and five TDs as GVSU claimed a 45-20 win. Just one week earlier in the Lakers' 47-14 victory at Northern Michigan, Williams completed 17-of-28 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns, while toting the ball three times for 16 yards and his first career rushing TD, a six yard scamper.  Williams, who became the Lakers' all-time leader in career TD passes with 118, is second in career passing yards with 10,892, just 13 yards behind Cullen Finnerty (10,905). Bart also improved to 36-7 as a starting QB.

• Senior WR Nick Dodson caught five passes for 88 yards and two TDs vs. Michigan Tech on the heels of an eight-catch, 129-yard, 2-TD game at Northern Michigan. Dodson, who has four career 100-yard receiving games, moved into 11th in all-time receptions with 124.

• Junior RB Chawntez Moss, who has broke the 100-yard rushing mark twice in four games, has rushed for 452 yards and two TDs for the Lakers.

• RS Freshman Jack Provencher wears #11 and he is putting up some all-purpose yards like a former #11, Blake Smolen. Smolen is the all-time leader in all-purpose yards with 2,070 rushing yards, 2,220 receiving yards, 1,386 kickoff return yards for a total of 5,676 yards (103.2 ypg). Provencher has 246 rushing yards, 140 receiving yards and nine punt return yards for 395 all purpose yards (98.8 ypg).

• Senior kicker J.J. McGrath has 11 touchbacks in 18 kickoffs this season.

• Senior punter Collin Cribley has punted 19 times for a 43.2 yards per punt average, including five of plus 50 yards and five inside the 20. Cribley set a GVSU single-game record for punting yards (12-541) at Delta State.

Triple Threat At WR - The WR unit consisting of Austin Paritee (18-313-3), Nick Dodson (16-247-4) and Brandon Wadley (10-228-0) has combined for 44 catches for 788 yards and eight TDs in four games.

• The Grand Valley State pass defense has limited its first four opponents to 547 passing yards (109 yards-Indianapolis; 110-Delta State; 103- Northern Michigan; 214-Michigan Tech) and three touchdowns via the pass. The Lakers have allowed just seven TD passes in their last 16 games.

• GVSU tallied 18 tackles for loss, five QB sacks (-32), forced 10 punts and allowed just one touchdown at Delta State. GVSU has 38 TFL for -137 yards on the year.

• Grand Valley State will again face the toughest schedule in Division II football, evidenced by the 2018 ledger having four teams that advanced to the 2017 NCAA DII Playoffs. GVSU opened the season at home versus 2017 GLVC Champion and playoff participant Indianapolis, followed by a road tilt at DII power Delta State.. The Lakers will also host Ferris State (Oct. 13) and Ashland (Nov. 3) at Lubbers Stadium.
