GVSU-MTU Highlights
#5 Grand Valley State claimed a 45-20 GLIAC home win over Michigan Tech Saturday night before the second largest crowd (16,671) in Lubbers Stadium history on Family Day. The Lakers improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC action. GVSU will hit the road again for a 1 p.m. contest at Northwood next Saturday (Sept. 29). Michigan Tech falls to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in GLIAC play.
It was a record setting night for senior QB
Bart Williams as became the Lakers' all-time leader in TD passes for a career with his second TD pass of the game in the second quarter. He tied former Laker great and 2002 Harlon Hill Award winner, Curt Anes, with a 7 yard TD pass to RB
Jack Provencher, then set the record (115) with a perfectly thrown 42 yard TD pass to senior WR
Nick Dodson to give GVSU a 17-7 lead. Williams then hit Dodson again, this one covering eight yards to give the Lakers a 24-7 halftime lead. The Laker defense dominated Michigan Tech in the opening half, limiting the Huskies to 21 rushing yards and 115 passing yards
GVSU forced a three-and-out on the Huskies opening possession of the second half and quickly marched down the field with a 7-play, 70-yard scoring drive that took 3:01 off the clock. Williams hit senior TE
Pete Cender with a 20 yard TD pass to up the Laker lead to 31-7. Provencher added a 12 yard TD run and caught his second TD pass of the game, this one covering nine yards for the final margin of 45-20.
Williams completed 23-of-37 passes for 382 yards and five TDs, connecting with seven different receivers. Junior RB
Chawntez Moss rushed for 95 yards on 16 carries, while Provencher chipped in 68 yards and one TD on 13 carries. Dodson hauled in five passes for 88 yards and two TDs, followed by
Austin Paritee who caught five passes for 87 yards. In addition to his running, Provencher caught five passes for 52 yards and two TDs.
Brandon Wadley chipped in three catches for 53 yards and Moss caught three passes for 49 yards. PK
J.J. McGrath opened the scoring for the Lakers with 23 yard field goal on the opening possession of the game and converted all six PATs.

Tyler Bradfield led the defense with eight tackles, a pass break up and a QB hurry, followed by
Jailyn Harden with six stops and a TFL. GVSU limited Michigan Tech to 268 yards of total offense (54 rushing/214 passing) and 4-of-12 on third down conversion.
The Laker offense converted 11-of-16 third down conversions and held the ball for 35:15.
