DETROIT -- The Grand Valley State Lakers comeback fell short in a 3-2 loss to the Davenport Panthers Saturday night. It was the second loss of the day for the Lakers, eliminating them from the 2018 GLIAC Tournament and ends the Lakers season at 28-23.
The Panthers scored all three of their runs in the first inning. A wild pitch on ball four allowed a run to score before a two-run double gave Davenport an early cushion. The Lakers responded with two runs in the second inning when
Caleb Anspaugh singled home a run before a
Christian Faust fielder's choice allowed
Chase Carpenter to score. The Lakers would threaten a few more times, including a three-hit eighth inning, but could never find the equalizer.
Noah Lamboley was hit with the loss, allowing the three first-inning runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out eight in seven innings.
Kyle Lawson worked a perfect eighth inning to keep the Lakers within a run heading into the final frame. The Lakers out-hit Davenport, 9-4, in the contest despite the loss.
