Grand Valley State dropped a GLIAC doubleheader Sunday afternoon and split the four-game series at Northwood. After sweeping the Timberwolves on Saturday, the Lakers lost the first game Sunday 4-1 and the second 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth. GVSU falls to 23-17 overall and 11-9 in GLIAC action, while Northwood improves to 27-11 and 15-5. Grand Valley State will host the final four home games of the 2018 season next Friday (April 27) – Sunday (April 29) versus Saginaw Valley State. The games will be aired live on ESPN3 with Tom Cleary calling the action.
Game 1
GVSU struck first with an unearned run in the top of the first. Freshman CF
Nolan Anspaugh singled to center, stole second and scored when senior catcher
Austin LaDoux reached on a fielding error by the Northwood second baseman. Northwood answered with one run in the first, one in the second and two in the third to pick up the win. The Lakers collected six hits, but left eight on base. Sophomore LHP
Travis Keys took the loss, allowing four runs, two of which were earned, on four hits with three strikeouts. Senior RHP
Noah Lamboley pitched 2.2 innings of hitless relief with three strikeouts. N. Anspaugh was 2-4 with a run scored, while 2B Josh Smith, 1b

Ricky Clark each collected a hit.
Game 2
Grand Valley State took a 1-0 lead in the second, scoring one run on two hits. 3B
Austin LaDoux singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single by 2B
Josh C. Smith. Northwood scored two runs in the bottom of the third on one hit and two hit batters to take a 2-1 lead, but the answered with two runs on two hits and a Northwood error in the top of the fifth to capture the lead, 3-2. Freshman SS

Ryan Blake-Jones singled in the second run.
The Lakers added a run in the top of the eighth and another in the top of the ninth to take a 5-2 lead, however, Northwood plated four runs on four hits and a Laker error in bottom of the ninth to pick up the walk off win.
Senior RHP
Tate Brawley pitched a gem, allowing two runs on five hits in eight innings of work with nine strikeouts. Grand Valley State collected 11 hits, but also left 11 on base. Smith was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Gleason and freshman C
Caleb Anspaugh each tallied a pair of hits. Gleason, Faust and Blake-Jones each drove in a run.
