LEBANON, Ill. -- The No. 13 Grand Valley State Lakers roared past the McKendree Bearcats, 21-10, Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action at Leemon Field. GVSU scored 13 second-half goals to pull away and improve to 10-4 on the season and 8-1 in the GLIAC while McKendree drops to 5-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
Carly Shisler set a career mark with six goals in the game to lead the Laker attack.
Meggan Loyd added three goals and
Ashley Bailey dished out three assists and scooped seven ground balls.
Erika Neumen controlled 12 draws in the match and also added five ground balls while scoring a goal. As a team, the Lakers out-shot McKendree 43-31 and controlled 22 of the 33 draws in the match.
Down a goal, Shisler leveled the match at 3-3 ten minutes in to spark a 6-2 run that would close out the half. Leading at the break, as they have in their previous two contests, the Lakers put forth an inspired effort in the second period. Caging 13 goals in the half, GVSU never went more than five minutes without scoring throughout the 30 minute period. The league-leading Lakers return home on Friday (April 20) to host the Northern Michigan Wildcats at 7:00 PM. The Lakers will wear special orange uniforms and headbands as they
raise funds and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.
