Grand Valley State dropped a tough 3-2 decision at Purdue Northwest in the GLIAC opener for both schools Friday afternoon. GVSU is 11-9 overall and 0-1 in GLIAC action, while PNW improves to 8-4 and 1-0. Saturday's twinbill will begin at 2 p.m. (ET).
GVSU got on the board first in the top of the fourth with one run on three hits. DH

Alex Mandeville singled to center to score Nate, but Clark was thrown out at the plate trying to score. Purdue Northwest answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on two hits. A single, walk and sac bunt put two runners in scoring position and a two-out single to center plated a pair and gave the Pride a 2-1 lead.

Nolan Anspaugh doubled down the left field line to open the fifth and junior RF
Jacob Gleason singled to center to plate Anspaugh and tie the game at 2-2.
Both Grand Valley State and Purdue Northwest managed just two hits apiece in the final four innings. A leadoff walk for the Pride in the bottom of the ninth proved to be the game-winning run. A sac bunt and groundout moved the runner to third where he scored on a wild pitch for the walkoff win.
Ryan Arnold got the start for the Lakers, but was not involved in the decision. Arnold yielded two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in eight innings of work.
Noah Lamboley was tagged with the loss. Gleason was 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Clark was 2-for-3 with a walk. Mandeville was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Anspaugh, LF
