Grand Valley State split a Sunday twinbill at Lewis, dropping the first game 11-10, but claiming the nightcap 7-4. GVSU is now 11-8 overall and will open league action at Purdue Northwest Friday (March 23). The Lakers did win the series 3-1 over an NCAA DII regional foe.

Lewis took a 1-0 lead with a single run in the bottom of the first, but 3B
Austin LaDoux stayed hot with a solo HR to left to tie it up at 1-1. The Flyers scored two in the bottom second on three hits to take a 3-1 lead, however, for the second time in as many innings GVSU answered, this time with two to tie it at 3-3. CF
Chase Carpenter singled with one out and moved to second on a
Zach Berry Walk.
Jacob Gleason flew out to center and Carpenter advanced to third.
Ryan Blake-Jones walked to load the bases and Carpenter scored on wild pitch, followed by a LaDoux single to score Berry. Lewis took a 4-3 lead in the bottom half of the frame to take a 4-3 lead.Â
Josh C. Smith walked to open the fourth and
Alex Mandeville reached on a sac bunt turned error. Carpenter singled to load the bases, but a lineout and strikeout left the bases loaded for Blake-Jones with two outs and he delivered a 2-run single to center to give GVSU a 5-4 lead. LaDoux then doubled to right to plate two more runs and up the Laker lead to 7-4.Â
Christian Mercure got the start for the Lakers on the hill, yielding four runs and five hits in 2.2 innings.
Noah Lamboley picked up the win with 3.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while
Kyle Lawson picked up his fifth save of the year with a hitless seventh, including a pair of strikeouts.Â
LaDoux was 3-4 with four RBI, and Blake-Jones plated two runs. Carpenter was 2-4 with two runs scored.Â
Game 1
The Lakers were in control through the midpoint of the game, scoring in each of the first five innings and building a 10-3 lead. 1B

Alex Mandeville led off the second getting hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sac bunt from CF
Nolan Anspaugh. Mandeville advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly to right by Berry. GVSU added two more runs in the top of the third as Blake-Jones singled and advanced to third on an
Austin LaDoux double to right center. DH
Aaron Donald scored Blake-Jones on a groundout and 2B
Christian Faust plated LaDoux with a single to left to up the Laker lead to 6-0.Â
Lewis reached the scoring column with a solo shot to left to lead off the bottom of the third, but the Lakers added two in the top of the fourth. Gleason singled and stole second. Donald plated Gleason who moved to third on a LaDoux fielder's choice and scored on a Donald groundout. Freshman
Ricky Clark scored LaDoux on a single to center to give GVSU an 8-1 lead. Lewis scored two in the bottom of the fourth, but GVSU answered again with two more in the top of the fifth. CF N. Anspaugh doubled with two outs and scored on a double off the bat of Berry. Gleason tripled to plate Berry and give GVSU a 10-3 lead.Â
Lewis scored two in the bottom of the fifth on four hits and then six on five hits in the bottom of the sixth to claim the 11-10 win.Â
Blake-Jones was 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Berry was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. LaDoux was 2-4 with two runs scored and Gleason was 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Donald drove in a pair of runs, Clark and Faust each collected a hit and plated a run.
Tate Brawley yielded five runs on nine hits and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.Â
