Lakers Claim 5-2 Win At Lewis

Ryan Arnold improves to 4-0 on the mound

The Grand Valley State baseball team picked up a 5-2 victory over GLVC foe Lewis on Friday (March 16) in Romeoville, Ill. The Lakers, 9-7 overall, will square off the Flyers in a single 9-inning game on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. (ET) Sunday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. (ET).

The Lakers got on the board first with three runs on four hits and a Lewis error in the top of the first. LF Zach Berry doubled down the right field line with one out and after a groundout 1B Ryan Blake-Jones singled to right to plate Berry. Back-to-back singles from C Austin LaDoux and DH Joey Nate was followed by 3B Ricky Clark reaching on an error that scored two runs.

Lewis scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first and the Flyers pulled to within one (3-2) with a run in the bottom of the fourth on two hits. However, the Lakers answered with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth. Berry reached on a single and RF Jacob Gleason doubled for the second time in the game. Blake-Jones then delivered a one out single to center to plate Berry and Gleason to give the Lakers a 5-2 lead.

Lewis did not get a hit after the fourth inning and managed just two base runners on a walk and a hit batter.

Ryan Arnold pitched a gem and improved to 4-0 on the year. Arnold allowed just two runs, one of which was earned, on five hits with four strikeouts. Kyle Lawson picked up his fourth save of the year with a hitless ninth. Four Lakers supplied two hits for the offense, highlighted by Blake-Jones' 2-flor-5 outing with three RBIs. Berry tallied two hits and scored two runs, while Gleason added two doubles and a run scored. SS Alex Mandeville also singled twice.
