GVSU Drops A 10-7 Decision To Missouri S&T Sunday Night

Lakers return to action Monday

Grand Valley State dropped a 10-7 decision to Missouri S&T at the Dunn Hospitality Classic being played at Southern Indiana in Evansville, Ind. The Lakers will play Hillsdale College at 3 p.m. Monday and then a twinbill Tuesday against Southern Indiana beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday's game was schedule to start at 8, but did not begin until 9:30 and the final out was recorded at 12:30. 
 
The Lakers struck first again with a run in the top of the first. LF Aaron Donald doubled and scored on a throwing error by the shortstop with one out.
 
Missouri S&T struck for six runs on four hits, including a 2-run homerun with two outs to close the scoring in the bottom of the second. The Lakers answered with four runs on two hits and an error in the top of the third to pull within one (6-5). RF Jacob Gleason singled to open the inning and 3B Austin LaDoux was hit by a pitch. 1B Ryan Blake-Jones reached on an infield single and DH Nate Chase walked to score Gleason. After a strikeout 2B Josh Smith reached on an error by the right fielder that cleared the bases.
 
The Miners scored three runs of their own on just one hit and a Laker error in the bottom of the third to take a 9-5 lead. A leadoff double was followed by an error and a walk to load the bases with no outs. After a foul out, Missouri S&T scored on a walk and then added a pair of runs on wild pitches. 
 
Neither team managed to push across another run until Missouri S&T scored a single run in the bottom of the eighth on two GVSU errors.
 
Junior SS Alex Mandeville walked with one out in the top of the ninth, followed by a single to center off the bat of Donald. Gleason singled to center to score Mandeville and Ricky Clark was hit by a pitch to load the bases again with two outs. Joey Nate walked to score Nolan Anspaugh who was pinch running for Gleason and the go ahead run came to the plate. However, the Miners were able to get the final out and preserve the win.
 
Gleason led the offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Donald chipped in a pair of hits and scored a run.  Tate Brawley took the loss, while Brett Nearing and Noah Lamboley also saw action on the hill.
