The Game
#8 Grand Valley State (9-1, 6-1) will host Wayne State in the 2018 regular season finale Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1p.m.. Grand Valley State is third in the latest NCAA DII Super Region three rankings and primed for its 19th NCAA DII playoff appearance and 20th all-time postseason berth. The top seven teams in each region receive a bid and the top four get a home game in the first round.

Grand Valley State leads the all-time series by a 34-5 margin, including 29 straight wins. Prior to today's contest GVSU had played three consecutive games at Wayne State. GVSU is 16-2 at Lubbers Stadium and 18-3 at Wayne State. The average margin of victory in the 29-game Laker winning streak is 37.5-13.2 and GVSU has scored 40 or more points 10 times and held WSU to 10 points or less 11 times in the last 29 games. The Lakers claimed a 45-27 victory over the Warriors a year ago in Detroit. WSU's last win in the series was in 1984 (30-3).

Wayne State
The Warriors enter today's game having played solid football each of the last four weeks. They have two 10 points defeats and a three-point loss, wrapped around an impressive 55-21 win over Northwood. RB James Hill leads the offense with 730 rushing yards and nine TDs, while DeOntay Moffett has 444 rushing yards and nine TDs. QB Jake AmRhein has completed 107-of-202 passes for 1,515 yards and nine TDs. Darece Roberson has 23 catches for 527 yards and seven TDs. LB Anthony Pittman leads the defense with 67 tackles and 11.0 TFL, while Leon Eggleston has 65 tackles and 11.0 TFL.

• Grand Valley State has won nine or more games 21 times in the 48 year history of the program. A win over Wayne State would give GVSU its 16th season of 10 wins or more.
• Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 400-143-3 (.735) in 48 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 292-73-3 mark (.797).
• GVSU has won four NCAA Division II Football National Championships, made 19 playoff appearances, won 17 league titles, captured nine NCAA regional titles, made nine trips to the NCAA DII semifinals and six to the NCAA DII title game.

Bart Williams continued to rewrite the Lakers' passing record list. Williams' 487 passing yards vs. Ferris State broke the previous single-game record of 434 yards held by Curt Anes (2001/Michigan Tech) and was the fifth-best, single-game total in GLIAC history. Williams is the all-time leader in career passing yards (12,052) and passing TDs (123) for Grand Valley State. He needs two TD passes to move into fourth in all-time passing TDs (125). In addition, Williams is fourth in all-time GLIAC passing yards (8,544) and second in passing TDs (87). Former Laker great Curt Anes is next on the list for passing yards (8,600), while also being the all-time leader in passing TDs (91). Williams, who is 40-8 as a starting QB for the Lakers, is a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy for Academic and Athletic Excellence.

Bart Williams was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week back-to-back weeks following his performances vs. Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. Williams completed 23-of-37 passes for 382 yards and five TDs as GVSU claimed a 45-20 win over the Huskies. Just one week earlier in the Lakers' 47-14 victory at Northern Michigan, Williams completed 17-of-28 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns, while toting the ball three times for 16 yards and his first career rushing TD, a six yard scamper.

• Grand Valley State won three consecutive games by five points or less on the final play of the game for the first time since 2000. GVSU defeated Davenport (19-14), Saginaw Valley State (31-28) and Ashland (20-17) the last three weeks in order. In 2000, GVSU defeated Michigan Tech (31-29), Wayne State (22-20) and Hillsdale (31-29) the last three weeks of the season all on the final play of the game.
• Grand Valley State has scored in 35 of the 40 quarters played this season. On the flip side, the Lakers' opponents have scored in 20 of 40 quarters played.
• Grand Valley State will again face the toughest schedule in Division II football, evidenced by the 2018 ledger having four teams that advanced to the 2017 NCAA DII Playoffs. GVSU opened the season at home versus 2017 GLVC Champion and playoff participant Indianapolis, followed by a road tilt at DII power Delta State.. The Lakers will also host Ferris State (Oct. 13) and Ashland (Nov. 3) at Lubbers Stadium.
• GVSU just finished a stretch of playing three road games in the first five weeks. The Lakers played in Cleveland, Mississippi (1,464 miles round trip) versus Delta State, followed by a road for a trip to Marquette, Michigan (828 miles round trip) to take on Northern Michigan. The Lakers traveled 2,392 miles between the back-to-back road games. GVSU played at Northwood last Saturday (Sept. 29) to complete the road swing.
