TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Grand Valley State (3-7, 2-1 GLIAC) women's lacrosse team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio on Sunday on the back end of a road trip to Ohio after taking on Findlay on Friday and fell to the Dragons by a score of 16-14. Tiffin scored five of the final six goals of the game to take the victory over the Lakers, four of which came in the final 10 minutes of the contest.
The Lakers' scoring efforts of six goals in the first half were led by
Meggan Loyd, who scored three goals in the half, and
Meghan Datema, who scored a pair of goals.
Sarah Stagaard would give GVSU their other goal of the half off of an assist from
Kelley Fitzgerald. Tiffin took a two goal lead into the second half, scoring eight goals in the first half.
GVSU's second half was led by Stagaard, who scored three goals in the half, while Datema contributed another pair of goals. Loyd,
Ryan Skomial, and
Maria D'Angelo each scored one goal in the half. GVSU scored seven of the first 10 goals in the second half to eventually grab a 13-11 lead before Tiffin would come back and score five of the final six goals.
Chelsey Bishop led the Lakers assisting on three goals, while Datema and Stagaard led the way with four draw controls each.
Sarah Zwilsky, Datema, and
Kira Dosenberry each had two ground ball recoveries on the day.
Brianna DeMilia started the game in goal and was given the loss in the game, recording two saves and surrendering eight goals. Zwilsky took over in goal shortly before halftime and played a little over 33 minutes recording four saves and giving up eight goals.
The Lakers return to action next weekend in a home match against Northern Michigan at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium at 1:00 PM.
