ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State (4-8, 3-1 GLIAC) women's lacrosse team fell to Seton Hill (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 13-9 after taking a 6-4 lead into halftime of the game. The Lakers started their scoring early, netting their first goal in just 17 seconds from
Sarah Stagaard.
Stagaard would score just over five minutes later to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead early on in the contest. Seton Hill stormed back with a pair of goals of their own at 22:44 and 19:35 to tie the game up at 2-2, but GVSU answered back less than a minute later to re-claim the lead at 3-2 off of a goal from
Meggan Loyd. Seton Hill would score another pair of goals to claim a 4-3 lead over the Lakers, but would not score again in the first half. GVSUÂ netted two goals from Loyd and one goal from
Abbi O'Neal in the final nine minutes of the first half to take a 6-4 lead into the break.Â
The Lakers would stagger out of the gates after halftime, however, as the Griffins scored a quick pair of goals to pull the game even at 6-6 in the first two minutes of the second half. Seton Hill would continue their run, scoring four more goals over the course of seven minutes to take a commanding 10-6 lead. Loyd would net her fourth and final goal of the game at 14:00 to bring the score to 10-7, but Seton Hill responded with another pair of goals to take a 12-7 lead. In the final seven minutes,
Meghan Datema would find her way to the net for two goals to close the gap to just three at 12-9, but the scoring run proved to be too little, too late for the Lakers, as Seton Hill would score the final goal of the game at 1:48 to seal the 13-9 victory.Â
Carly Shisler led the way for the Lakers in draw controls on the day with three, while
Sarah Zwilsky led the team in ground balls, picking up six. While Zwilsky was handed the loss at goalie, the senior was able to make 10 saves on the game while playing the entire 60 minutes.Â
The Lakers continue conference play on Sunday when they take on McKendree at the GVSU Lacrosse Complex at 1:00 PM.Â
