#16 Lakers Drop Home Opener to #2 Lindenwood

Lakers were out-scored 10-4 in first half

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The #16 Grand Valley State (1-5) women's lacrosse team took on their fourth top-five opponent on the year as they played host to the #2 Lindenwood Lions (9-0) on Thursday afternoon and fell by a score of 14-6. The Lakers were plagued by another slow start as the Lions claimed the first three goals of the game before the 25 minute mark in the first half.

The Lakers were able to storm back in the middle of the first half as they would tie the game up at 3-3 on the back of a trio of goals from Molly McGeeney, Meghan Datema, and Abbi O'Neal. With the game tied at three goals apiece, the Lakers looked poised to make the game a close one before the Lions went on a tear for the rest of the game, outscoring the Lakers 11-3 over the course of the game.

GVSU was led by Datema and O'Neal on the offensive side, as the pair of Lakers had two goals each. Brianna DeMilia stepped in between the pipes for the Lakers in the second half and had a strong showing with eight saves while surrendering just four goals in the half.

The GVSU women's lacrosse team travels to Sparks, Md. on Sunday for a matchup against a top-10 opponent in #7 Rollins College at the US Lacrosse Facility. The Lakers look to improve to 2-5 on the year.
