BRADENTON, Fla. – Day two of the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships has concluded and had two individual runners and a relay team qualify for Saturday's finals for their respective events at the IMG Academy Stadium in Bradenton.

Sean Wells qualified for his second straight championship race when he finished first in the first heat of the 110m hurdle preliminaries. The 2015 national champion, Wells ran the first heat with a time of 13.84, his best time of the season thus far. The senior hurdler just barely beat out Javier Lopez of Texas A&M-Kingsville in the heat, with Wells running 13.835 and Lopez 13.840. Wells will run the 110m hurdle final on Saturday at 5:55 pm.

In the 100m hurdle preliminary following the 110m hurdle,
Tiara Wiggins ran the eighth-fastest time of the event to qualify for Saturday's final at 6:05 pm. Running in the third heat, Wiggins placed third among those competitors with a time of 13.83 to qualify for the final of the event.

The relay team to qualify into the final on Saturday was the women's 4x400m relay team of
Jessica O'Connell,
Alexis Duncan,
Breanna Luba, and
Angela Ritter. Running in the second heat, the GV relay team finished fifth in the heat and with the seventh-best time overall with a time of 3:42.54 to earn them a spot in the final on Saturday at 9:05 pm.

The Grand Valley State women added two more points to their collective total by way of a seventh-place finish by
Dajsha Avery in the discus throw. Competing in the third event of the day, Avery placed seventh after making a throw of 47.40m (155' 6'') on her second attempt to earn her the first All-America finish of her young collegiate career and fourth total for the Laker women.

Darien Thornton and
Chris Saikalis will look to add to the point total for the Laker men when they compete in the shot put at 1:15 pm on Saturday (May 28), while Avery will look to nab her second All-America finish at 5:05 pm in the shot put. The Laker men currently sit tied for second with Ashland with 16 points, while the women are placed eighth with 16 points.
