Lakers Rout Walsh, Clinch GLIAC Regular Season Title

Grand Valley State will host GLIAC Tournament Semifinal and Final

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State closed out the regular season in style as the 11th-ranked Lakers routed visiting Walsh 22-1 at a rainy GVSU Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday, wrapping up their fourth consecutive GLIAC regular season title. The big win, their sixth 20-goal game of the season, gives GVSU a 13-4 overall record and 11-1 mark in the GLIAC.

Livvy Mickevicius, Nicki Tague, Chloe Zdybel, Carolyn Kraus, Caitlin Wojichowski, and Samm Martin were all honored as the six graduating seniors by head coach Alicia Groveston, Athletic Director Tim Selgo, and the rest of the Laker roster prior to today's game.

Kira Dosenberry, Danielle Tunnell, and Kelley Fitzgerald all tallied hat-tricks, while Fitzgerald added an assist to give her a team-best four points in the lopsided win, and Mickevicius, Meghan Datema, and Ashley Bailey scored twice. Seven other Lakers scored one goal on the afternoon, and eight different players tallied one assist.

Erika Neumen pulled down five of the team's 18 draw control wins during the evening, while Kelly Leibovitz led the team with three caused turnovers and tied with Kraus, Tunnell and Zdybel for the most ground balls on the team with three. In net, Brianna DeMilia made four saves in 44 minutes to earn her fifth win of the season. Madison Barnes played the remaining 15:43 and made one save.

Grand Valley State reeled off the first 10 goals of the game before Walsh (5-12, 0-12 GLIAC) snuck one past DeMilia at 9:29 for their only goal of the game. Grand Valley State scored the remaining four goals of the first half and all eight goals of the second half to cruise to their 13th win of the year in the regular season finale.

Not only did today's win clinch the GLIAC regular season title for the fourth year in a row, but it gives the Lakers the top seed in the 2016 GLIAC Tournament and an automatic bye to the Semifinal game on Friday (May 6). Grand Valley State will play the winner of the fourth- and fifth-seed match, played on Tuesday (May 3).
