AUBURNDALE, Fla.-- The Grand Valley State baseball team was defeated 12-2 on Thursday by the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks, the second game played by the team at the Russmatt Invitational in Florida.
The team will return to action on Friday with a game against Alderson-Broaddus at the Lake Myrtle Park, where today's game was played.. First pitch is set for 2:45 p.m.
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, scoring in each of the first three innings, and would add another run in the fourth and three in the fifth to hands the Lakers the loss. The game was called off after the top of the 7th inning.
GVSU got a pinch hit two run home run off the bat of
Matt Williams, while
Josh Griffith had two hits.
Tim Tarter (1-1) was charged with the loss after pitching 4.1 innings.
Brendan Nearing pitched 1.2 innings in relief.
