ALLENDALE, Mich. – In the second to last meet of the regular season, Grand Valley State track & field saw two records fall, three NCAA automatic qualifying marks and 15 provisional qualifying marks hit.

With Sunday (May 10) being the final day to qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Allendale, Mich. from May 21-23, there were plenty of athletes competing at the GVSU Track & Field/Lacrosse Stadium for one of two final opportunities to qualify for nationals.

Sean Wells, the Lakers speedster in the hurdles, had another stellar performance on the track today. The junior sprinter ran the 110 meter hurdles in a blazing fast time of 13.70, breaking the record he set at the
Al Owens Classic in mid-April by .07 seconds and the Stadium record originally set by Matt Brisson in 2013. Wells, who now ranks first in Division II in the 110 hurdles, also hit a provisional mark in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.03.

Two more automatic marks come from the women's field events. In the pole vault,
Jamie Roberts hit a mark of 4.02 meters to place third in the event, and
Sarah Talbott hit a mark of 6.12 meters in a first-place showing in the long jump. Roberts now sits fourth in the country with her mark, while Talbott's jump puts her sixth in the country.

Of the 15 provisional marks hit on the day, nine came from the women's side and six the men. The most provisional marks came from the women's pole vault with three vaulters.
Alexandra Kitz placed sixth with a mark of 3.92 meters, while
Whitney Bice took 14th with a mark of 3.67 meters, and
Michaila Lawcock also vaulted 3.67 meters to take 16th.

Also hitting provisional marks for the women were
Angela Ritter (11.75) in the 100 meter dash,
Breanna Luba (1:00.40) and
Kylie Hicks (1:01.58) in the 400 meter hurdles,
Alexis Duncan (5.78m) in the long jump, and
Laura Schroeder (57.86m) in the hammer throw. The 4x100 meter relay team of
Carly Scott, Ritter,
Michaela Lewis and
Brittney Banister also hit a provisional mark by placing first with a time of 45.77.

Outside of Wells in the 200 meter, hitting provisional marks for the Laker men were
Gary Hickman (14.37) in the 110 meter hurdles,
TJ Burnett (52.26) in the 400 meter hurdles,
Patrick Fisch (4.81m) in the pole vault,
Samora Nesbitt (14.78m) in the triple jump,
Chris Saikalis (17.60m) in the shot put, and
Mike Moon (57.88m) in the hammer throw.

The final meet of the regular season, the GVSU Last Chance Invite, will take place on Saturday (May 9) at 11 a.m. with both the field events and the running events. Both the men's and women's pole vault will take place indoors at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
