Grand Valley State Pounds Tiffin, Wins 73-50

Box Score

TIFFIN, Ohio – Korynn Hincka set a single-game career high for points as the Grand Valley State women's basketball team won their third road game of the season in a 73-50 rout of conference rival Tiffin Friday evening.

The Lakers (6-2, 2-1 GLIAC) gave up the fewest points in a game this season to win their second straight conference game, after holding Lake Erie to 53 points on Saturday (Dec. 5). Meanwhile, it was the third straight loss against conference opposition for the Dragons as they fall to 2-5 and 0-3 in the GLIAC.

Tiffin took an early lead off a pair of back-to-back two-pointers, but the Lakers pulled ahead quickly with six straight points. The lead would change twice before consecutive three-pointers by Taylor Parmley and Brionna Barnett gave the Lakers a 15-9 lead going into the second quarter.

A Taylor Lutz lay-up was the first of seven points to build a 13-point lead for GVSU to open the quarter. Tiffin scored two straight baskets to bring their deficit to nine, but a Lutz free throw and Hincka jumper in the paint brought the lead back to double-digits. A scoreless 3:23 was followed by 16 points in the final 2:13 of the quarter, eight of those points coming off of two free-throws by Barnett and two baskets from downtown by Lindsay Baker.

The Grand Valley State lead would obtain an insurmountable lead thanks to a 21-point third quarter, spearheaded by Lutz and Piper Tucker with six points apiece. Kayla Dawson also chipped in four points during the quarter, while Barnett put up three points, Hincka two, and Bailey Cairnduff also contributed two points.

Hincka scored the most points of the night in the fourth quarter with seven points off two points in the paint and a three-pointer, the fourth of her career as the Lakers put up 19 on the Dragons. Dawson was the next highest with five in the quarter, giving her 10 for the game.

Also scoring in double figures for GVSU were Lutz with 13 and Tucker with 10. Hincka also led the team in rebounds with nine, a game-high for both squads as GVSU outrebounded Tiffin 36-30, while Dawson dished out seven assists.

Grand Valley State will face a quick turnaround as they face GLIAC foe Ohio Dominican (6-2, 2-1 GLIAC) on Sunday (Dec. 13) at 1 p.m.
