#12 Grand Valley Staste will square off against #5 Shepherd Saturday at 12 noon at Ram Stadium on the campus of Shepherd University. The game can be viewed live on ESPN3 or on the 15-station Grand Valley Radio Network, including the flagship station ESPN 96.1 FM. Grand Valley State will be making its ninth NCAA DII semifinal appearance.

The Series
This will be the first meeting between Grand Valley State and Shepherd. 

• Grand Valley State is making its 17th trip to the NCAA DII Playoffs, the third highest total among active DII schools. In addition, GVSU's 34 wins and .732 winning percentrage both rank second all-time in DII playoff history. GVSU is 34-11 all-time in the NCAA DII playoffs, including a 34-6 mark since 2001...GVSU is 7-2 in the NCAA playoffs under Mitchell and 6-1 since 2013...The Lakers have won four NCAA DII National Championships since 2002 and advanced to the NCAA title game six times since 2001. • Grand Valley State scored on the first offensive play of the game, a 65 yard TD pass from sophomore QB Bart Williams to junior WR Matt Williams, and never looked back en route to a 31-7 Super Region 4 final. B. Williams became the GVSU all-time, single-season leader for passing yards on the play. Redshirt freshman running back Marty Carter rushed for a GVSU playoff record 231 yards and one TD on 26 carries, while also tossing a 22 yard TD pass to Nick Keizer. Kirk Specer scored on a 7-yard run and Joel Schipper booted a 45 yard field goal. Marquez Gollman led the defense with eight tackles, while Tre Walton picked off two passes giving him a team-high six on the year.

• Grand Valley State has the second longest streak for consecutive games without being shutout at 291 games. The Lakers were last shutout by Ferris State (23-0) in 1992. Valdosta State's 294 games without being shutout is the longest streak.
