#17 Lakers Hit The Road For GLIAC Matchup At Tiffin

The #17 Grand Valley State Laker football team will hit the road for a GLIAC matchup at Tiffin Saturday afternoon. GVSU (7-2, 6-2 GLIAC) and Tiffin (5-4, 4-4 GLIAC) will kicloff at 1:30 p.m. at Frost-Kalnow Stadium. The Lakers enter the game ranked eighth in the latest NCAA DII Super Region 4 rankings and need a win to remain in playoff contention. You can catch all of the action live on the GVSN radion network with Steve Lloyd-Jones (p-b-p) and Greg Johnson (color) calling the action.

The Lakers have outscored Tiffin by a combined point total of 349-62 in those seven meetings, with the average score through seven games GV 49.8 - TU 8.8. In addition, the Lakers have shutout Tiffin three times (2008, 2010, 2012) in the seven meetings.

• Grand Valley State and Ashland had an offenive shootout in matchup of top 10 teams that the Eagles won 45-31. However, a pair of defensive stands by Ashland's defense proved to be the difference in the final score. The Lakers were unable to even the score in the second half despite being in prime scoring position. Sophomore QB Bart Williams became the first QB in Laker football history to throw for over 383 yards and four TDs in back-to-back games, while GVSU had three receivers go over the 100-yard receiving mark in the same game for the second time in program history. Matt Williams (5-185, 3 TD), Jamie Potts (6-111) and Nick Dodson (6-111, 1 TD) each broke the 100-yard receiving mark. Marquez Gollman led the defense with 13 tackles, while Donte Carey chipped in 10 stops and David Talley nine.

• GVSU leads the nation in QB sacks with 31 (-185) and ranks second in the GLIAC in tackles for loss with 71 (-297)...Eighteen Lakers have tallied a TFL, while 10 have a QB sack. 

• The Lakers rank first in the GLIAC in turnover Margin (1.22) and turnovers gained (23).

• Grand Valley State ranks fourth in the GLIAC and 10th nationally in team pass efficiency rating (158.54).
