ORLANDO, Fla. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team came from behind to win a 6-3 match against Coe College on Thursday (Mar. 6), moving to 7-2 overall on the season. Coe takes only its second loss of the year, falling to 10-2 overall.
In doubles competition, the Lakers got a victory from Quinn Sylow and Jack Heiniger in an 8-3 match, but were behind 2-1 going in to the singles flights.
There, GVSU broke through, winning five of the six singles matches to take the victory. Francis Bertrand won a hard-fought three-set match at No. 1 singles (1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2), one of four three-set matches that the Lakers won in singles.
Billy Heckman grabbed a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles, Heiniger picked up a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles and Sylow won 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Andrew Bole was the only Laker to win in straight sets, taking a 6-4, 6-4 match at No. 5 singles.
The Lakers will hope to avoid any rain on Friday (Mar. 7) when they take on Montana State-Billings.
