GVSU Falls 35-14 At Michigan Tech

#20 Michigan Tech claimed a 35-14 victory over Grand Valley State Saturday in Houghton, Michigan. Michigan Tech improves to 6-0 on the year, while GVSU falls to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in GLIAC action. GVSU will stay on the road with a league tilt at Findlay next Saturday.

Michigan Tech took the opening kickoff and drove 65 yards in eight plays for an opening score. Tyler Scarlett hit Andrew Clark with a 6-yard scoring pass on third down and Garrett Mead converted the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

 Grand Valley State converted one fourth down on its opening drive, but QB Heath Parling was stopped just shy on a second fourth down play and the Huskies took over on their own 16 yard line. GVSU forced a three and out, however a running into the kicker penalty was called a personal foul and MTU kept possession. WR Brandon Cowie then hit Clark with a double pass, this one covering 38 yards and Michigan Tech upped its lead to 14-0.

 Parling was picked off on the Lakers second play of the following Laker drive and Charlie Leffingwell went 54 yards on the Huskies first play for a touchdown and after the PAT Michigan Tech led 21-0 with eight seconds left in the first quarter. The Huskies added 14 second quarter points to up its lead.

 The Lakers opened the second half with a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive to get on the board. RB Terrell Dorsey scampered 26 yards on the opening play of the drive and Parling hit Potts with three passes on the drive, including an 11 yard TD pass on third and goal. PK Joel Schipper added the PAT. GVSU drove 80 yards in 6 plays for a score midway through the fourth quarter. Parling hit WR Keontre Miskel with a 23-yard TD pass. 

 Parling completed 19-of-35 passes for 278 yards and two TDs, while Potts led the receiving unit with five catches for 61 yards. Miskel added four catches for 69 yards and Matt Williams hauled in three catches for 51 yards. Dorsey rushed seven times for 51 yards to lead the ground game.

 Sophomore linebacker David Talley led the defense with nine tackles and a QB sack and Isiah Dunning chipped in eight stops.
