GVSU Drops GLIAC Tilt At Ohio Dominican

Columbus, Ohio - Grand Valley State dropped a 57-14 decision at Ohio Dominican Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon in Columbus, Ohio. GVSU drops to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in GLIAC action. The Lakers will host GLIAC North rival Michigan Tech next Saturday (Oct. 5) at Lubbers Stadium.

Ohio Dominican played a perfect game in all facets, scoring two special teams touchdown, recording a safety and holding the Laker offense to just 14 first half points. The Panthers went up 17-0 early in the first quarter before the Laker offense mounted a drive. The Lakers went 55 yards in four plays as junior QB Isiah Grimes hit sophomore tight end Jaimie Potts with a 24 yard touchdown pass. Trailing 24-7 senior cornerback Reggie Williams picked off a pass at the ODU 20 yard line. Grimes hit junior tight end Joe Wirth with an 18 yard pass to the Panther one and junior RB Michael Rate finished the drive with a one yard plunge across the goal line. However, Ohio Dominican returned the kickoff 93 yards for a TD and recorded a safety with under a minute left in the first half to take a 33-14 lead into the lockerroom.

Sophomore RB Kirk Spencer led the offense with 55 rushing yards on nine carries, while Ben Hutchins added 46 yards on five carries. Grimes completed 14-of-26 passes for 183 yards and one TD, while Potts hauled in five passes for 80 yards. Junior punter Chris Picano averaged 44.3 yards on five punts with a long of 54. Senior LB Charles Hill led the defense with 12 tackles and two tackles for loss. Junior defensive lineman Matt Mosley recorded five tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss (-8). Williams and Devonte Jones each picked off a pass.
