The Laker defense opened the second half with a three-and-out and the offense responded with a drive inside the UI 10 yard line, but McMahon fumbled on a QB keeper and the Greyhounds Nate Jackson raced 90 yards for the score and Puntarelli's PAT gave Indianapolis a 17-16 lead with 7:31 left in the third quarter. GVSU answered with a 4-play, 55-yard scoring drive, highlighted by a 39 yard pass and catch from McMahon to WR Greg Gay. Grand Valley State was unable to move the ball and Jandasek's punt traveled just 24 yards to the GV 24 yard line. Grand Valley State's defense forced the Greyhounds into a fourth-and-six play and appeared to deflect the fourth down pass, but UI's Brenden Williams hauled in the deflected pass and raced to the Laker six yard line.
