#1 Grand Valley State Claims 35-9 Victory Over Indianapolis

Allendale, Mich. - #1-Ranked Grand Valley State survived three turnovers, two of which occured inside the Indianapolis five yard line, en route to a 35-9 victory over GLIAC foe Indianapolis Saturday (Sept. 11) in Allendale, Mich. GVSU improves to 3-0 overall and in GLIAC action, while the Greyhounds fall to 0-3. GVSU is now 51-2 in its last 53 games.

Grand Valley State scored on its first three possessions and built a 21-3 halftime lead. GVSU drove 44 yards on nine plays as sophomore QB Cullen Finnerty found sophomore WR Mark Catlin wide open in the endzone from 23 yards out and PK Scott Greene added the PAT. Indianapolis drove 68 yards in 14 plays and PK Nick Parker concluded the drive with a 24 yard FG. The Lakers answered quickly with a seven-play, 62-yard drive that concluded with a Finnerty to freshman WR Demonte Collins 6 yard TD pass. Senior RB Michael Tennessee added a 1 yard TD run that capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive to put the Lakers up 21-3 after 30 minutes. Indianapolis took a GVSU punt and drove 92 yards in 17 plays on its opening possession of the second half. RB Donnie McCoy finished the drive with a 2 yard run to paydirt.

GVSU added 14 fourth quarter points to put the game out of reach. Finnerty ran the ball in from 7 yards out to put the finishing touches on an 11-play, 65-yard drive. RB Ryan Hukill scored from 10 yards out to end a 7-play, 38-yard drive.

Michael Tennessee led the Laker ground game with 96 yards and a TD on 20 carries, while Ryan Hukill added 86 yards and a TD on 10 carries. Cullen Finnerty completed 16-of-25 passes for 172 yards and two TDs. Junior WR Brandon Langston led the receivers with six catches for 76 yards, while Mark Catlin hauled in three catches for 55 yards and a TD catch. Sophomore linebacker Rory Steinbech led the defense with 8.5 tackles. DE Mike McFadden tallied five tackles, three tackles for loss (-13) and 1.5 QB sacks (-10). SS DeJuane Boone chipped in five tackles.

GVSU was 8-12 on third down and rushed for a 208 yards. The Laker senior class improved to 44-2 overall and 30-1 in GLIAC action.
