Grand Valley State won the Jack Shaw Classic hosted at Western Michigan on Saturday. The Lakers tallied 152 points in the victory. Calvin finished second with 110 points, while Aquinas recorded 41 points for a third place finish. GVSU will participate in the Hillsdale Gina Relays April 26-28.
Jake Hendrickson won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.92, while Garron Lucius finished second (11.10). Hendrickson also finished in first place in the 200 meter run with a winning time of 22.23. Michael Palombo placed fourth with a time of 22.85.
Mike Stowe took second in the 800 meter run (1:55.85) and John Collins finished in second place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:05.53. Curtis Barclay placed second in the 3,000 meter run as he finished in a time of 8:47.63. Lucius won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.67 and Joe LeFevre took second place (14.70). LeFevre also won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 54.59.
Nate Miller won the high jump with a mark of 2.06m, while Matt Gordeneer claimed first place in the pole vault with a jump of 5.20m. Ryan Rademacher took second place in the long jump (6.60), Robert Metellus finished third (6.44m), and Mitch VanPortfleet placed fourth with a mark of 6.30m.
Nick Natale won the shot put with a toss of 16.27m, while Ian Evans finished in second (13.60). Ahmed Mahr won the discus throw with a mark of 48.96m and Mitch Bosch finished second (44.90). Casey Fetcher placed first in the hammer throw (59.67m) and Natale took second with a throw of 52.86m. Kevin Kimple won the javelin (53.24) and Evans finished in second place with a throw of 47.98m.
