Ian Shoemaker begins his second year as the Grand Valley State offensive coordinator/QB coach. Shoemaker spent the previous two years at the University of Hawaii as the co-offensive coordinator/quarterback coach.Â
Â
Shoemaker guided an offense that had to use five different quarterbacks due to injuries. During regular season play, the Lakers averaged over 30 points and 400 yards of total offense. GVSU converted 45 percent of its third down conversions and turned the ball over just 15 times.  Â
Â
Shoemaker was the offensive coordinator/quarterback coach at Eastern Washington from 2019 – 2021, leading one of the most prolific offenses in the country. The Eagles averaged 537.1 yards and 41.3 points per game during that time, advancing to the NCAA Football Championship playoffs in 2020 and 2021. Shoemaker mentored QB Eric Barriere who was two-time Walter Payton Award finalist and was selected as the FCS National Player of the Year in 2021.Â
Â
Prior to Eastern Washington, Shoemaker was the head coach at Central Washington University from 2014 – 2019, guiding the Wildcats to a 45-20 record, two Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships (2017-2018) and a berth in the 2017 NCAA DII Playoffs. He was named the NCAA DII Regional Coach of the Year and the GNAC Coach of the Year following the 2017 campaign. In addition, Shoemaker was the offensive coordinator at St. Cloud State from 2008-2013 where he guided an offense that was led by Harlon Hill Candidate and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year, quarterback Phillip Klaphake.Â
