Marlynne Deede

Assistant head coach, Marlynne Deede made an immediate impact in her first year as head coach, leading the team to a fourth-place finish at Nationals. Under her leadership, two women’s wrestlers were crowned national champions in their respective weight classes, and another earned a national runner-up title. In total, she coached five All-Americans and nine scholar All-Americans during the season.

Deede successfully advanced 12 of 15 wrestlers from Regionals to Nationals, where her team placed second—falling short of the title by just 1.5 points.

Marlynne Deede was announced as the assistant coach for the newest addition to the GVSU athletic program, Women’s Wrestling.

In High School, she was a 3x Folkstyle State Champion, 3x Freestyle State Champion, and a Folkstyle National Runner-Up.

Deede was a standout wrestler at Augsburg University where she was a4x All-American, 2023 National Champion, 2022 US Open Runner-Up, and 2021 Olympic Team Trials Qualifier. 

Marlynne transferred to the University of Iowa for her 5th year to compete at a higher level. She had an undefeated record, was 2024 NCWWC Region Five Champion, 2024 NCCWC National Champion, and was a letterwinner. 

Deede earned her B.S in Geoscience from the University of Iowa.
