Axel Ochoa is entering his first year on the Grand Valley State women’s golf coaching staff as an assistant coach. This is Ochoa’s first coaching job.
“I am so thrilled to have Axel join our coaching staff and am looking forward to working together,” said Mailloux. “His experience as both a collegiate and professional golfer will be a great asset to the team.”
Ochoa, who hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina, played collegiate golf for Oklahoma Christian University from 2007-2011, where he was a member of two NAIA National Championship teams.
Since his time at Oklahoma Christian, Ochoa has held multiple positions in the golf world. Most recently, he’s been the owner and head golf recruiter of his own website, which looks to connect South American golfers with universities in the United States. In addition to his work in golf, Ochoa has also held jobs as a commercial analyst and public relations and sales manager in Buenos Aires.
“I would like to thank Rebecca for believing in me and giving me this great opportunity,” said Ochoa. “ I am very excited to get my first experience as a coach, especially at such a great university like Grand Valley State. I can already see a unity in the group that is special and great things are ahead of us this upcoming season.”
Ochoa and his wife, Jenna, currently reside in Grand Rapids and are expecting a baby this winter.
