Eric Murray enters his seventh season with the Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming and diving program, including his second as the associate head coach. Murray has been a key piece in the Lakers' success both in the GLIAC and the NCAA Championships since his arrival. GVSU is 89-36 in dual meet action, claimed nine GLIAC titles and recorded five top five finishes at the NCAA Championships.
Grand Valley State has been dominant in the distance events under the direction of Murray in GLIAC Championship action. GVSU has won a combined 27 out of 36Â GLIACÂ titles in the distance free events (500, 1000, 1650) since the 2018 GLIAC Championships. Murray has mentored five GLIAC Swimmer of the Year honorees. Murray mentored Eric Hieber who won the 2023 NCAA Championship in the 1650 freestyle.Â

Murray came to Grand Valley State after an extensive career in the swimming industry both as a high school and club coach. Most recently Murray was the head coach at Owosso High School and a volunteer assistant at Michigan State. In addition, he has spent time as the director of the St. Johns Sea Lions Swim Club and as a swimming camp counselor at the University of Texas. Murray guided Owosso to a 30-16 dual meet record and captured the Capital Area Activities Conference Red title in 2015 for the first time in school history. He was selected as the 2015 Coach of the Year by the Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association for Zone 7.
