Tom Werkmeister enters his first season on the Grand Valley State men's golf staff. Werkmeister is widely regarded as one of the top amateur golfers in the the state of Michigan, having been named the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) Player of the Decade (2010-2019). In addition, he is a five-time GAM Player of the Year, a two-time Michigan Amateur Champion (2009, 2017) and won the Michigan Open in 2013. He won the GAM Championship in 2016 and is a 10-time West Michigan Amateur champion. 

Werkmeister has played in two U.S. Senior Opens, placing 43rd in 2019 and 52nd in 2018, while also recording a top 40 finish at the Shaw Charity Classic in 2018. 

Tom was a junior college All-American at Macomb Community College in 1987.
