Shaun McKinney is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the GVSU basketball team. He previously served as an assistant coach and video coordinator for Olivet College for the 2018-19 season. A graduate of Michigan State in 2018, McKinney was a member of the women's scout team for three years after transferring from Olivet College, where he was a team captain on the men's varsity team from 2014-15. While still in school, he served as an assistant coach at East Lansing High School in 2017-18, helping the school to a 22-4 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals. He has also worked with the team camps at Oakland University, Michigan State and Bankhoops.
